The city of Chipiona has been one of the major protagonists during the The XLIX National Lighting Symposium featured Enrique Briehl (LEC) and Antonio Manuel Pedrosa (Chipiona City Council), where the model to follow in the realm of Smart Cities was presented through its innovative approach to smart public lighting. By implementing cutting-edge technologies and optimizing resources, the city has not only improved energy efficiency but also created a safer, more welcoming, and sustainable urban environment.
The smart lighting project in Chipiona has been an essential component of its vision for an innovative city. The transformation has been driven by the adoption of high-efficiency LED lighting solutions, which not only provide superior light quality but also significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Enrique Briehl, Commercial and Marketing Director of LEC (Light Environment Control) stated: “The lighting sector is one of the main pillars of a smart city, as the electrified backbone of the city consists of luminaires. This allows us to illuminate any type of sensor in the future to serve the community. In this sense, in most cases, lighting is becoming the starting point.”
A key element of Chipiona’s approach to smart lighting is the implementation of sensors and advanced control systems. These devices allow for the automatic adjustment of lighting intensity based on environmental conditions and the presence of people, ensuring that the lighting is appropriate and efficient at all times. This not only reduces energy costs but also creates a more comfortable and safe environment for residents and visitors.
In the words of municipal technical engineer Antonio Manuel Pedrosa, “It is necessary to demonstrate the importance of drafting the project to deliver our works. The execution of the lighting and installations must comply with what one has planned from the very beginning, and what better way to ensure this than to prescribe in detail, outlining all the project documents to ensure that quality standards will be met.”
